Meet Janice Zucker (Louisa) from LTA's "Design for Murder"

What do you find appealing about your character and this show? She’s funny, wealthy, eccentric and a bit kooky!  (She believes in astrology in the 1930’s.)  It’s a supporting role but I’m having SO much fun playing her!  What have you learned about yourself in playing the role of “Louisa”? That it is also fun to play a character that is NOT nasty (which is usually the kind of character that I VERY MUCH like to play.)  In fact, I like playing that nasty kind of character so much that people have told me lately that I’m getting type cast!  But Louisa is so different from those type of characters and I have enjoyed experimenting with how I’m playing her and thoroughly enjoying it!  What do you want the audience to experience/take away from this show? Most of all to escape for a few hours and enjoy themselves but also to see if they can guess who the murderer is before it is revealed!  How does this show differ from other shows you have w...

Meet Kathy Ohlhaber (Celia) from LTA's "Design for Murder"

What do you find appealing about your character and this show? I love a good “October” show that has murder, mystery and stormy nights. I seek out challenges as an actor and Celia is a challenging character. She is quite complex, and I had to work hard to find a good balance between her unlikable characteristics and her redeeming qualities. What have you learned about yourself in playing this role? Something I’ve always held true has been re-affirmed; it’s important to bring a piece of yourself to each character you play. Perhaps it’s your humor, your confidence or just a little quirkiness. I go “all in” with each character and they usually end up being very bold or intense. That approach reflects my all or nothing nature and my friends and family always see a hint of Kathy in each character. With Celia, I’ve learned that being bold isn’t a bad thing! What do you want the audience to experience/take away from this show? Although this is a “murder-mystery, who-dun-it” typ...

Meet Patricia Smith (Mrs. Hamilton) from LTA's "Design for Murder"

What do you find appealing about your character and this show? I think this is the first time I have played a truly unhappy person. Mrs. Hamilton seems to have drawn the short straw in life, and I empathize. I love the 1930s setting of the show, and the variety of characters. What have you learned about yourself in playing the role of “Mrs. Hamilton”? I have learned to draw on some dark aspects of my past. I have worked hard to understand why Mrs. Hamilton behaves the way she does. What do you want the audience to experience/take away from this show? I want them to be mystified and entertained. I want them to lose their worries for an evening! How does this show differ from other shows you have worked on? While I have been in many mysteries over the years, most of them have been Agatha Christie. This has a very different feel. I enjoy the 1930 setting. When I read it for the first time it certainly kept me guessing. How long have you been acting and what made you get involved i...
