Brittany Bolick (Ensemble) in LTA's "Something Rotten!"

What do you find appealing about your character and the show?
I'm really excited to be in the ensemble because we get to play so many different parts. Especially in "A Musical" where every four measures we're changing styles. The show itself is also just a blast! It takes us and the audience through a history jazzed up with some show biz flair.

What have you learned about yourself in playing this role?

I've learned that I have to keep remembering I'm not in the audience! I get so caught up watching the other actors that I just want to sit back and enjoy their performances.

What do you want the audience to experience/take away from this show?

I want the audience to leave having had a good time. I hope that we can provide a night free from their everyday troubles and these unprecedented times. I want their bellies to hurt and their eyes to water from how hard we have them laughing. And hopefully they'll never look at omelettes the same way again...

How does this show differ from other shows you have worked on?
This is definitely the most tap heavy show I've been in. It's been a fabulous challenge to learn a different way of moving onstage and to think about the sounds we make dancing and not just the visual images.

How long have you been acting and what made you get involved in theatre? How did you get involved with LTA?
I really started getting involved in theatre in high school. I've done ballet my whole life so it seemed like the natural way to get involved with my school. I then continued acting in college ending up with a degree in Drama from UVA where I had the opportunity to be in several Charlottesville area shows and choreograph a few as well. This is my first show with LTA and I was incredibly excited to learn of the opportunity during LTA's collaboration with TAP for their Night of One Acts earlier this spring.

What advice would you give others who are interested in working in theatre?
You've just got to be willing to look a little silly. Whether you're learning something new or dancing around as a giant egg, there are going to be times when everything feels ridiculous. Just remember that it's all a process and that once it's on stage with sets, costumes, other actors, and a whole lot of rehearsal, it will be just the right thing.
