Ripcord- meet cast member Cameron McBride!

Tell me a little bit about your character?  Scotty is a resident aide at the facility where the play takes place, and often finds himself to be the sole voice of reason!  He cares very much about the people there, but has his own life that he still wants to explore.  Scotty might be still finding his place in the world, but he's doing the best he can on all fronts.

What were some of the challenges for you in working on “Ripcord”?  Theatre in the age of COVID is not only a blessing considering how long we were bereft of it, but also a challenge.  Ensuring the safety of the cast, crew, and audience has brought many adjustments and changes to the normal rehearsal process.  We have a wonderfully talented group however, and we have been able to put together a show that does justice to the material while taking into account this challenging time period.

How does this show differ from other shows you have worked on?  This show has more serious dramatic elements and themes than previous shows.  Family struggles, staying relevant, finding a place in the world - don't worry, there are still lots of laughs to be had here!  But there are a lot of slower, more thoughtful stages in the plot that might catch you by surprise.

How long have you been acting and what made you get involved in theatre? How did you get involved with LTA?  I did a good bit of acting when I was younger in grade school, starting in primary school and through high school.  I didn't have a chance to do a lot during college and law school, and the first few years of practice as an attorney left little free time.  Once I moved up to Northern Virginia and had more opportunity, I saw an audition for A Christmas Carol at LTA, and decided to give it a shot.  It not only helped revive my love of acting, but introduced me to the theatre community up here in general, and most importantly, I met my current fiancee on stage.

What advice would you give others who are interested in working in theatre?  The best advice I can give is just to jump in and start volunteering!  Community theatre is a welcoming, warm place that loves to bring in new people.  Take a look on theatre's websites and see what they need - auditions, ushers, stage managers, set construction - and reach out about something that interests you.
