To Kill a Mockingbird - meet cast member Nathaniel Burkhead

Meet Nathaniel Burkhead who is playing Dill in LTA's To Kill a Mockingbird.

Tell us about your character. What single word would you use to describe him/her?
My character, Dill, is quite a funny character, almost the comic relief. He is also very smart, as he says, "I'm little, but I'm old." He is the only one of the three kids that realizes how special Atticus really is. A single word to describe Dill would probably be creative, because of his comical actions and his thoughts on the trial and Atticus.

What were some of the challenges for you in working on this piece?
Some of the challenges for me would probably be working on the southern accent, especially because Dill is from Mississippi, so he has a different accent than everybody else in the play.

What do you hope the audience experiences/takes away from this show?
Some of the things I hope the audience takes away would be the whole idea of the story, about Scout coming of age, and finally realizing things that make her more mature. I also hope that the people that watch this play, when or if they read the book it reminds them of this play, and the actors in it, too.

  1. I re-read TKaM, and then went on to read some of Truman Capote's works as well. All inspired by the up and coming actor, Nathaniel B.
