What do you find appealing about your character and this show? I love the fact that this show is simultaneously entertaining, enlightening, amusing, and emotionally compelling.  About Headmaster - I like that he is direct, opinionated, and just a tad irritating.  He's fun to play! What do you want the audience to take away from this show? In addition to hoping they will be entertained (and it IS an entertaining play), I hope audiences will find themselves pondering questions about just what "education" is - or should be.  The questions raised about competing goals and values in education, and even about how history is portrayed (and taught) are as contemporary and relevant in the U.S. in 2016 as they were in 1980s England (the era and setting of this play).  I also hope that audiences will be tussling with questions about sexuality and the boundaries and guidelines for appropriate behavior among adolescents and the adults in their lives.  It would also be ni...

How did you get involved with LTA's History Boys and what are your goals as co- Stage Manager? I'm a glutton for stretching my personal time thin. I've been on a theater kick since November of last year and this is my 7th show in a row. I worked with our producer Mary Beth on her last show, Port City's Fool for Love , and she had asked me to work on this with her. I read the script and told her "I love the show and there's no part I can try out for, so put me down as your Stage Manager".   What do you hope the audience takes away from this show? How long have you been acting?   How did you get involved with LTA? I’ve been acting on and off for 33 years!   (God, I’m old.)   I’ve been trying to get into LTA for a while, but this is the first time the stars have aligned.   I am very thrilled to have been given this opportunity to work with one of the best community theaters in the DMV! What do you find appealing about your character and this show? Well, first of all it’s great fun being the only woman in a cast full of charming men!   And I think Mrs. Lintott enjoys it, as well.   She has great affection for her boys even as she pretty effortlessly quells their nonsense.   Her skill as a teacher is very important to her and she has a deep respect for and love of history, while at the same time recognizing how unfair it generally is to women…as she very passionately describes in one of my favorite scenes. Meet cast member Jack Kearney who is playing Jem Finch in LTA's To Kill a Mockingbird. Tell us about your character.  What single word would use to describe him? Jem is the son of a small southern town lawyer.  Adventurous is the word I would use to describe him. What have you learned about yourself in playing the role of Jem? I have learned what life was like in those times and how to really be engaged in acting. What were some of the challenges you faced while working on this show? It was hard learning the southern accent and memorizing the lines. What do you hope the audience takes away from this show? I hope the audience experiences how life was like in the 1930's. Tell us a little bit about your character. What single word would you use to describe him/her?  Early in the show, Jean Louise refers to Miss Stephanie as the “neighborhood scold,” but I prefer to think of her as a busybody. She always has her nose in everyone else’s business, so in her mind, she knows better than anyone how things really are in Maycomb--and she isn’t shy about letting everyone know it! What were some of the challenges for you in working on this piece? Figuring out how to interpret my character was a bit tricky because her lines actually come from two characters in the book--not only Stephanie Crawford, the Finches’ neighbor, but also Aunt Alexandra, Atticus Finch’s sister. Frank really wanted us to draw on the book to flesh out our portrayals, so I’ve tried to meld the traits of the two characters together into a composite person who essentially embodies the status quo in Maycomb.
